Louis Aguirre’s L’Annunciation is the first movement of a work for violin and piano entitled Iconos. Each movement of the duo is associated with a religious painting. The ‘Annunciation’ cited in this movement is from Leonardo da Vinci (shown at right). Iconos is an acoustic work, and the first movement is for violin alone. It immediately puts the violin at its ecstatic extremes, reflecting the depth of passion to come to the life newly arisen in the womb of the virgin Mary. Iconos was written in 1992 and revised in 1999.
